So I've spent a large portion of 2011 searching for a new apartment, putting money down for the new apartment, clearing out the junk (new apartment is 19 sq. feet smaller than old), moving into the new apartment, and cleaning the old one.

Needless to say, I haven't had time for much writing this year.

Will that change? I certainly hope so. Things have gone squirrely at work, and I can barely sleep at night, let alone write. Somehow, I've managed to clean up a short pair of character sketches for Black Butler - Kuroshitsuji - and post them at fanfic.net. Depending on how they're received over there will depend on if they're posted here or not. Other than that, haven't even looked at stuff that's currently sitting in the editing pile.

I'm considering myself mostly settled into the new apartment, with one box of stuff that I haven't been able to find a place for. Considering how much stuff DID move, I consider that an accomplishment. Doing plenty of puttering around though, rearranging things and seeing what works better - trying to free up more space.

Here's to hoping that the brain and fingers start working in concert again and I can start pumping out some fanfic.

Well...not really. The new year has been quite busy, and full of challenges, and as such, I just haven't had the time nor the inclination to write. Here's a sampling:

1. Been searching for a new place to live - after last year's laundry room pipes bursting and flooding my bedroom (don't ask) incident, I had decided that I would be moving this year. Took me the entire month of January, and then into February, but I found where I'm moving to. The only problem is that my current lease is through May...so I'm slowly going insane.

2. Pipes Bursting Round II - Last Friday, (2/4), on the heels of the actic cold (and .4 inches of snow) that hit San Antonio, the pipes in the laundry room burst yet again. Luckily, I was home this time, and seepage into the bedroom was minimal. However, there is now a rather large gaping hole in the laundry room that goes all the way to the sheetrock wall IN my bedroom. And nights have been in the 20's and 30's here. Which means my bedroom has been several degrees colder than the rest of my apartment. Fun, fun.

3. Wi-Fi iz ded - A few weeks ago, my computer began to mysteriously freeze up when I tried to turn it on. Would only come up in Safe Mode. With a lot of luck, I managed to determine that everything is fine if I am not using my installed-in-computer wireless modem. Plug me up to ethernet, and everything runs fine. No idea why this happened, but...yeah. Somebody smack me.

4. Writer's Block - All of the above and work has pretty much killed off any inclination to write or edit lately. I do have several things in-progress, and hope to get back to them in the next few weeks, depending on how things work out.

Grr.....

There are two, I think. The first is Palimpsest by Cathrynne M. Valente, LJ's own catvalente. Beautiful, lyrical prose that just makes your jaw drop (and a sexually transmitted city is just something that needs to be).

The second is Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal. I just read this, and it's like Jane Austen with magic. Seriously.

Go read them both, they're worth it.

My pajamas, since I'm not planning on going to any parties this year. Except for the one on my couch, with my cats, that includes cuddling, warm throw, and a good book.

Novel is finished! The first draft came in at 57,610 words, and is tucked away in a folder on my computer to let it stew in the back of my brain for awhile before I start revising after the holidays.

In the meantime, I have brought fic to celebrate. ^_^

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up. I've been working on my novel for NaNoWriMo, which is why I haven't been around. Hopefully, I will be back with fic in a few weeks. In case I don't get a chance between now and Thursday, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Yes, at long last the next chapter is finally up. ^_^; Not quite as long a wait this time. Hope y'all enjoy, and Happy Holloween. As I intend to participate in NaNoWriMo next month, I probably won't be posting anything until December.
